School Is Out – Samuel Rhodes Students Visit Hutch

We are always looking for ways to connect with and inspire the next generation of videogame professionals. They represent the future of the industry, and we believe it’s the responsibility of established studios, like Hutch, to collaborate with and help this group reach their full potential.

That’s why we were thrilled when aspiring game makers from Samuel Rhodes school asked us if they could visit Hutch. The students were excited to get a glimpse behind the scenes and understand more about the process behind game development. We couldn’t wait to show the students what life as a game developer is really like, and hopefully inspire them to consider a career in mobile games. After all, everyone at Hutch started out as a passionate gamer, with their own unique insights into making a move into the games industry.

Partnering with BIMA, Britain’s digital community which links industry professionals with schools across the UK, the Hutch office was turned into a buzzing design classroom. Students and Hutch designers alike picked up a ton of valuable lessons. For the Hutch team it was a chance to share their passions and receive feedback on their design processes from a completely new perspective. For the Samuel Rhodes students it was a unique chance to see the entire journey of a game from start to finish, including ideation, design iteration and the final end product

Hutch is a huge believer in inclusivity and diversity; everyone should have an equal chance at succeeding in their dream career and we want to do all we can to help this. Even our office dog Winnie shares our view about being open to everyone and helping inspire others.

The students’ enthusiasm was hugely contagious and the day ended with everyone feeling excited and brimming with new ideas. We expect great things from them in the future and are looking forward to arranging more events for 2017.
