QA Project Lead

Job Summary


As a QA Project Lead you will be dedicated to a project and expected to take responsibility for running the testing within that project. You will need to coordinate your efforts with the development team, working side by side to advise and inform upon risk and to assist them in building a quality product. You will work with the QA Manager to execute test strategies and to continually improve operational efficiency and effectiveness by evolving QA methodologies. Working in an agile environment, the test effort should pair up with the active work for the sprint, but with constant consideration of the wider product. You will build and drive a comprehensive test strategy that covers all systems with testing efficiency in mind.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities


  • Assist with internal project kickoffs and requirements/spec gathering - utilising the 3 amigos process wherever practical
  • Collaborate with the other QA teams to share knowledge and encourage best practices across projects
  • Develop and execute test strategies, plans, cases and procedures - track test coverage and gather valuable performance metrics
  • Performance, Compatibility, Compliance, and Network testing
  • Embrace and evangelise the ‘Quality Assistance’ approach - which involves consistent, close collaboration with the development team
  • Document and facilitate communication and troubleshooting of issues, bugs and changes
  • Coordinate release testing with the aim of informing the team upon the risk/impact, based on test coverage achieved
  • Collaborate with Tech leads and Product Owner to manage change close to submissions
  • Coordinate with the project stakeholders to prioritise issue fixes via regular bug triages
  • Active involvement in Sprint ceremonies; daily scrums, demos, planning, and retrospectives
  • Develop and drive processes to aid bug prevention methods and encourage quality responsibility within the team
  • Collaborate with other QA staff to accomplish QA tasks efficiently, on time with a high level of quality
  • Assist in the training of new hires, mentor junior QA team members and share expertise
  • Act as subject matter expert for the customer support team
  • Co-ordinate with Customer Support to feed key issues/feedback into sprint
  • Actively seek to self improve; pursue training and development activities, strive to continuously build knowledge and skills.


Requirements


Essential

  • Deep working knowledge of Agile development/testing
  • Significant mobile application testing experience (iOS/Android/Amazon) - functional & non-functional
  • Deep understanding of a game's development lifecycle, and when / how to begin key testing phases eg. Performance / network /compliance etc
  • Experience working on a project from soft launch through to the post launch period
  • Experience with JIRA - dashboards, filters, agile boards, admin setup
  • Ability to work autonomously
  • Systematic approach to problem solving
  • Significant experience working within a games studio (ideally within mobile F2P)
  • Understanding and experience of server authoritative games and how this affects our testing
  • Calm under pressure with a proactive attitude
  • Excellent communicator
  • A genuine passion for QA and for working efficiently
  • A drive for continuous improvement

Desirable
  • An understanding of the mobile games market and Free to Play / games as a service business model
  • A level of technical understanding and familiarity with common QA tools such as Charles Proxy, ADB, Postman, Xcode, SVN, Testfairy,Google Play dashboard, Testflight, Jenkins etc.


Experience


  • Minimum 3 years experience in either games industry QA or in software testing
  • At least 1 year of which embedded within a games studio

QA Embedded Tester

Job Summary


Reporting to the QA Project Lead, the embedded tester will be working within a small mobile games development team in an agile environment. They should be a good communicator with excellent people skills and strong technical skills. The candidate would be expected to own the testing for significant aspects of one of our mobile projects, completing in-house testing and regression. The candidate must be self-motivated and well organised and have a real passion for QA.

Key Responsibilities


  • Design and execute functional and regression test plans (Manual Testing)
  • Working embedded within the development team completing in-house testing and bug regression
  • Attending and contributing to sprint planning, retrospectives, and the daily scrums
  • Reporting on build status
  • Tracking bug progress / database management
  • Implementation of bug prevention methods
  • Pro-active risk analysis to identify key areas of testing
  • Customer support


Desired Skills and Experience


  • A good understanding of Agile development and testing
  • Experience working embedded within a development team, ideally in Mobile games
  • Mobile application testing experience (iOS/Android) - functional and non-functional
  • Knowledge of the games development lifecycle
  • Experience with JIRA or other bug tracking systems

Release Engineer (Canada-based)
We are looking for a Release Engineer to join the team in our Nova Scotia, Canada studio. Hutch is a dynamic games studio, founded on a wealth of traditional game development experience, blending a bunch of people who are talented and passionate about making the best free to play games.

The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining and updating existing game titles across multiple platforms (iOS, Android, tvOS, Amazon) using the Unity engine. Working closely with the analytics and QA teams in London, UK and the tools and technology team in Nova Scotia to maximize the revenue income from titles no longer receiving content updates.

This is a permanent full-time role. It is based in Mahone Bay, Nova Scotia, Canada with the option to work remotely 2 days per week at the discretion of the business, in addition to a very competitive salary package.

Responsibilities


Addressing issues and implementing opportunities as they arise to improve revenue performance of existing titles no longer in active development. This would involve the end-to-end process of fixing bugs, implementing new sdks, tweaking the app, seeing the title through QA and then managing the release of the update to the appropriate app stores.

Tackling a wide variety of technology challenges including, but not limited to, third-party sdk integration, analytics, social-networking, advertising, and platform-specific features.

As part of the Tools and Technology team in Mahone Bay you would be responsible for designing and writing code in a maintainable and easily updatable manner, ready to be used by programmers in the London studio on multiple game titles both existing and in the future.

Documenting systems delivered such that they can be used and even maintained and altered by remote programmers who may not have any prior knowledge of the system.

Working closely with stake holders to ensure clarity of requirements and appropriateness of design. Delivering incremental solutions and seeking feedback to ensure transparency at all times. Adjusting priorities or design approach to changing ideas or business needs.

Requirements


Strong technical design and code skills, preferably in C#, though strong C++ experience is fine.

1+ years of console, PC or mobile development experience.

Worked on at least 1 game title developed through it’s release, having gone through full QA cycle, and preferably beyond to post-release support developing updates or DLC.

A passion for developing technology to help other developers.

Server/Network Programmer
We are looking for a Server/Network Programmer to join the team in our Central London studio. Hutch is a dynamic games studio, founded on a wealth of traditional game development experience, blending a bunch of people who are talented and passionate about making the best free to play games.
The successful candidate will be designing, prototyping and developing server-based multiplayer game systems, including both synchronous and asynchronous gameplay, matchmaking, leaderboards, DLC and more. Working very closely with designers, programmers and the technical director to solve the many challenges involved in creating a high quality, scalable, secure and performant online user experience in the most efficient manner possible to release in the desired time frame.
This is a permanent full-time role. It is based in Old Street, London with the option to work remotely 2 days per week at the discretion of the business, in addition to a very competitive salary package.

Job Responsibilities


  • Growing our multiplayer service into innovative new areas across new titles, using the latest technology to develop the most compelling online experience for our players.
  • Designing and building new online functionality in a maintainable, robust and flexible manner, ensuring scalability and readiness for rapid post-launch updates in response to customer feedback.
  • Writing tools where necessary to empower artists, designers and customer services to administrate the online services as much as possible.
  • Be actively involved in design discussions to make best use of technology.


Requirements


  • Strong technical design and code skills in suitable Web technologies and frameworks, including JavaScript/C#, Node.js, Azure/AWS, SQL/NoSQL, Redis, DC/OS, Docker, Marathon, or similar.
  • Broad experience of server/network programming and principles, including database design, replication, load balancing, reliable/unreliable messaging, latency minimisation, security.
  • 2+ years of server/network development experience in high load scenarios. Games and/or Unity experience desirable but not essential.
  • A passion for the latest Web technology, an interest in games a definite advantage.
